Why Teach English in China? See article at http://bit.ly/eHD2Hz

In my opinion, is the best possible location to begin or continue your career as an ESL/EFL teacher is by teaching English in China.

Perhaps you are wondering, China, why China?

Well for starters over one-fifth of China’s population at any one time is taking English classes.  There are always many job opportunities for teachers, so you can really pick the job and location that best meets your requirements.

From the newbie to the most experienced there is a great job waiting for you.

Most of the graduates from my TEFL program would agree that teaching at a government university in China has the most security, the easiest work schedule and the best benefits.

Your salary may not be as high, for instance if you worked at one of the numerous training centers in China, but for a small reduction in salary you will receive a nice apartment to live, typically on campus and the guarantee that you will always be paid on time and paid the contractually agreed to salary.

Additionally you will have weekends off and typically only 12 – 15 teaching hours a week, with no required office hours.  Not only do you have weekends off, but also up to 3 months of paid holidays.

Most universities will require that you have at least a bachelor degree in any subject and a TEFL-TESOL-CELTA certification.  Of course teaching experience is preferred, but not always required.

Teaching at a university in China can be a really rewarding experience, with lots of motivated Chinese students and an administration that really appreciates your contribution to the school. You will also typically receive heath insurance, free Chinese lessons, paid round-trip airfare and often times an additional $100 – $200 USD travel bonus.

Having taught in many different countries in Asia and at private schools, public schools, training centers and universities, for me it is no contest – government universities in China were by far my best teaching experiences.

So, if you haven’t seriously considered teaching English in China, spend a little time researching the many job possibilities at universities in China – you may find for you it too, is the perfect place to start or continue your ESL/EFL teaching career.
