Ballarat Year 12 students on mission to Fiji - http://bit.ly/aw6zZL

CLAIRE Woods and Kate Flynn will soon head off on an experience of a lifetime.

The year 12 Loreto students will be flying over to Fiji in January to teach English at a school in the town of Nadi.

"We were looking at things to do on the net and we wanted to volunteer overseas. That's when we came across Project Outreach," Woods said.

"We will be working for one month in a primary school."

Project Outreach reaches out to those in need all over the world.

Its mission is to give hope in any way that it is needed.

Woods said she wasn't aware that Fiji was a country that was in need of development.

"This will be the first time I've ever been involved in something at a school," she said. "I'm a bit nervous about the teaching, but I've always wanted to volunteer."

Flynn said the experience would be a real eye-opener for her.

She also hoped the month would provide her with an idea of what career she wanted to pursue upon her return to Australia.

"I think I'll appreciate different cultures because it's going to be so different," she said.

The girls are currently asking for donations to hand over to the school once they arrive in Fiji.
